Need Help With Heating? We're Here to Help...
We support Kennebec County residents who are going through temporary heating hardships. This could be bridging the gap before heating assistance benefits are available, dealing with a personal emergency or not being able to cover heating costs.
Each household can receive 1/3 of a cord of wood per season, which should last 2 - 3 weeks if it's the home's primary heating source. There are no income requirements to receive free firewood; however, the intent of our program is to help those truly in need.
Residents will need to pick up their wood from our site as we are not able to provide delivery. A truck or small trailer will be needed to transport the wood, but if not available, we suggest reaching out to relatives, friends or neighbors for help. Town offices, churches and local Facebook pages could be helpful resources as well.
We have partnered with Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) to assist us in managing requests. To request firewood and schedule your pickup, please call KVCAP's heating assistance team at:

Some Important Information
-
Please ensure the wood you receive is burned safely. Ask if your local fire department will perform a courtesy woodstove and chimney inspection. Smoke alarms and metal ash buckets are highly suggested.
-
Bring a vehicle to pick up your wood that can carry up to 1,000 lbs (pickup truck, small trailer).
-
All our firewood is cut to standard 16" length. A 1/3 cord of stacked wood is 4' high x 8' long x one row
-
Volunteers will assist with loading firewood into your vehicle but please bring along a helper if you can and be sure to wear sturdy shoes and gloves.
